Rest In Peace Goomba Carparelli. 2002 - 2011.

Goomba Carparelli

Goomba Carparelli blessed this world on December 17, 2002. Mike and Natalie (Keeks) brought this little black bundle of joy home in a Lee Labrada Protein Supplement Box (How's that for a shopping addiction?). Goomba was a pure Black German Shepherd know for their fantastic dispositions and extreme friendship with people. Goomba could be written into the dog dictionary of just how friendly Black German Shepherd can be.

Mike and Keeks knew right away they had a very special dog. First off he was a shy little guy but a week later at the dog park he took his toy with him and showed the world just who he was. A little bundle of joy who would at time embarrass Mike and Keeks with his antics but that was just fine with them. Goomba was very strong willed and stubborn who never listened to the two bosses of the house. It was now Goomba's time to turn the table who actually ran the place. Many friends and family members knew this dog was different as he had this funny ability to see right through you... as if with human eyes. Talk about special and with an attitude as listening to orders were not in his nature. But as strong willed as he was Mike and Keeks were just as strong which created a very special bond with him. Goomba was the apple of Mikes eye taking him everywhere. To meetings, to go pick up guitars for clients... he was by his side always.

At the tender age of One Goomba got a friend. Not just any friend...his BEST friend in the world Zukey! This was a tag team made in heaven and completed the circle of friendship and karma that Mike and Keeks were looking for in their lives.

The first 3 years of Goomba's life brought bushels full of happiness to all around him but an obstacle was soon to be put on his was to put in his way to overcome. But soon after Goomba was afflicted with fibrocartilaginous embolism which left one of his  hind legs disabled and affected him greatly in his daily quality of life. After a year of ongoing therapy and unconditional love he recovered a miraculously 80%. This was nothing short of dedication, hard work and a partnership by both animal and human and taught us that no matter how bad things are they do get better. Goomba's condition lasted for quite some time but after 5 years took a turn for the worse. After much consultation by vets Mike and Keeks were left with 2 very hard and heart wrenching choices. Either to put Goomba to sleep or amputate the leg and hope that things would heal and get better. Showing their absolute adoration for this dog that gave them many years of happiness they opted for amputation. In August 2010 Goomba went in for his surgery with Mike and Keeks knowing the odds were against him. With the grace of the higher powers Goomba's surgery was a success. This success gave Goomba another 6 months of unconditional love this very special dog deserved and rightfully so.

It is with great sadness that we now have to report that Goomba's condition has worsened to the point where he is suffering. Not only is he suffering but all of those that love him are suffering too. On Monday March 28, 2011 Goomba will be put to sleep leaving a life of adoration, laughs, love, companionship and the reminder that no matter how hard things can be at times they can be overcome. Goomba taught Mike and Natalie, the most important things in life...LOVE. Goomba Taught mike, never ever give up, Goomba taught mike and Natalie Patience!!!

Goomba was a trouble maker and a funny one at that. For this we pay our deepest respects for not only a very special dog but a family member and a member of Carparelli Guitars.

May his memory and good karma live on in every Carparelli Guitars, every strum and every song that has inspired so many people to carry on when life gets tough. Goomba was a perfect example of this and will be missed by his family, friends and his playmate Zukey.

Rest In Peace our friend knowing that you brought great things to many great people.
Your celebration of life will live on forever in countless hearts.

Canadian Guitar Sold For $147,000 CDN At Christie’s Auction In London
Mike Carparelli and the Damien Hirst Guitar

Proceeds from sale of Carparelli guitar painted by world
renowned British artist Damien Hirst go to War Child

London, England. February 17, 2011. A Canadian guitar painted by Damien Hirst was sold at a Christie’s auction for $147,000 CDN today. Proceeds from the auction for the Carparelli guitar will be donated to War Child, an international charity that protects children in war zones.

“It was a dream of mine to have one of my guitars make such a big contribution to such an important charity,” said Mike Carparelli, CEO of Carparelli Guitars of Toronto, Canada. “To be able to partner with an artist of the stature of Damien Hirst and a company as prestigious as Christie's to make this dream come true is beyond my wildest imagination.”

The charity auction was the brainchild of David Kam, a Montreal artist and social activist, who approached both Hirst and Carparelli with his idea. “I was ecstatic when they both agreed because War Child is doing such important work all over the world,” said Kam. “I knew the combination of Hirst’s artistic reputation and the spectacular design of a Carparelli guitar would attract a global audience of bidders.”

The Carparelli/Hirst guitar was displayed prominently in the Christie’s window in London, England prior to the auction. "At the auction, the guitar drew fierce interest from European, American and Asian collectors, and eventually sold to an internet bidder for $147,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $48,000 to $65,000,” says Lock Kresler, Head of Sales at Christie’s London. “We are thrilled to have been able to support War Child and
to have realised such a substantial amount of money.”

“War Child is delighted to receive the proceeds from the sale of the Damien Hirst painted Carparelli guitar and would like to thank both Damien Hirst and Mike Carparelli for this very generous donation,” says Dr. Samantha Nutt, Executive Director and Founder of War Child. “The funds raised will directly support War Child’s work to support conflict affected children in some of the most devastated regions of the world.”

We have hit on a really successful model for fundraising for great causes,” says Carparelli. “As a company, we will be looking for other opportunities to partner with famous artists to paint our guitars and auction them off for charity.”

INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED ARTIST DAMIEN HIRST PAINTS GUITAR FOR WAR CHILD

Leading British artist Damien Hirst, whose bold works have set records in London’s auction houses, has painted a guitar using his celebrated ‘spin painting’ technique and donated the work to War Child.  The stunning guitar will be auctioned at Christie’s London (UK) showroom on 17th February 2011, with all proceeds going to support War Child’s work with children affected by conflict.  The Scarborough Nine guitar, made by Canadian manufacturer Carparelli, who generously donated the instrument for this project, will be on display at Christie’s over the holiday season. http://www.christies.com/about/locations/south-kensington/

Barbara Harmer, War Child’s Music & Special Initiatives Director in North America said, “War Child is thrilled to be the recipient of funds raised through this very generous and beautiful donation. The spin painted guitar is a stunning piece of art and will do immeasurable good for the children and families that War Child supports in some of the most devastated regions of the world.”

Painter, sculptor, and installation artist Damien Hirst is one of the world’s most commercially successful contemporary artists.  Born in Bristol, England in 1965, Hirst was the most prominent member of a group of artists known as the Young British Artists.  The group came to prominence following 1988’s widely acclaimed Freeze exhibition in London’s Docklands, and went on to dominate the art scene in Britain in the 1990’s.

Carparelli Damien Hirst Guitar for War Child Masterpiece Damien Hirst Painted Carparelli Guitar for Charity

Hirst’s work explores the uncertainty at the core of human experience; love, life, death, loyalty and betrayal, through unexpected and unconventional media.  He is best known for the ‘Natural History’ works, which presents dead animals preserved in formaldehyde, such as ‘The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living,’ - a 14-foot tiger shark immersed in formaldehyde in a vitrine that became the iconic work of British art in the 1990’s.   His other famous works include A Thousand Years (1989), a glass case with maggots and flies feeding off a rotting cow's head and For The Love of God, a platinum cast of an 18th century human skull covered in diamonds. Hirst is also known for his 'spin paintings,' manufactured on a rotating circular surface, and 'spot paintings,' consisting of rows of randomly-coloured dots or circles.

This is the second donation that Damien Hirst has made to the charity.  In 1995, Hirst contributed to a series of small spin paintings as part of a limited edition box curated by Brian Eno.  The boxes were sold at the Pagan Funwear fashion event, attended by Stella McCartney, members of U2, Oasis and Roxy Music.

War Child is an international humanitarian organization with offices in London, Toronto and Amsterdam.  The charity works with children and their families who have suffered the horrors of conflict, to empower them to build futures free from violence and injustice.

Carparelli Guitars Donates Guitar Signed by Alex Lifeson of the legendary Canadian Rock Trio Rush to raise funds for an Autism Charity at the Richmond Hill Gold Club on September 16, 2009
alex_lifeson2.jpg

Once again Carparelli Guitars lives by the words 'it's better to give than to receive' and nothing is more true than the very special event and the Carparelli uoso, icon and legend Alex Lifeson of the Canadian Power Trio Rush.

Near and deep to Alex's heart Mike Carparelli and Carparelli Guitars stepped up to the plate to donate one of our flagship instruments to help raise funds for this cause that afflicts thousands of Canadian children, raise money for research and hopefully one day a cure for this life altering disease.

A humbling experience we would like to thank Alex and his sister Sally for approaching us and accepting our dontation for this worthy cause. No human, child or adult should ever have to suffer with this affliction and our hearts and prayers go out to the families of those with loved ones who are afflicted with this disease. We pray that the funds raised will one day help to find a cure and thank Alex and Sally for the opportunity to participate in this very worthy cause. True to form Alex was more than happy to accept our finely crafted guitar and we were very happy with the amount of money raised to help find a cure.

We don't think any guitarist would pass at the chance to have a superb instrument signed by one of Canada's finest guitar players hands down.

With thanks and love,

Mike Carparelli
